Law, Economics, and Politics of AI

This course explores the law, economics, and politics of artificial intelligence, with particular emphasis on legal and policy developments in the United States, China, and the European Union. After surveying the emerging regulatory frameworks in these jurisdictions, we will analyze AI’s impact on economic growth, productivity, and labor markets before turning to its implications for democracy, politics, and geopolitics. The course will consider how AI is reshaping public opinion, elections, and political discourse, as well as the dynamics of the intensifying technological competition between the United States and China. Finally, we will assess AI’s role in military affairs and national security and evaluate ongoing efforts to foster international cooperation and governance in the AI era. The student's grade will be based on written blog postings, a short final paper, and class participation.
