The Great Recovery III: The Future of the Legal Profession. Monday, November 30, panel at 6:00 pm, reception at 7:00 pm.
Princeton Club of New York, 15 West 43rd Street, New York, NY.
Since the onset of the current financial crisis, major law firms have laid-off approximately 10,000 attorneys. These numbers do not include the vast numbers of junior attorneys who have been furloughed, or summer associates who have not been invited to return to work. Firms like Heller Ehrman, Wolf Block, Dreier, and Thelen Reid have ceased to exist, and while the largest players have been hit the hardest, regional players have avoided some of the strife. As the financial and business communities reexamine the models they have relied upon in the past, how will these lessons effect the legal community going forward? What will law firm recruiting and retention look like in the new environment? What will be the profit model for the future of the legal profession? If you are an attorney, one who uses legal services, a student, or simply interested in the subject matter, please join our panel of legal experts who will share insight into the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. After the panel discussion, please stay for a drink and a chance to network with our guests and other industry professionals.
Moderator: Prof. David Barnard of Columbia Law School
Panelists: Cathy Kaplan LAW '77 of Sidley Austin, Hugh Verrier of White & Case, Blair Fensterstock of Fensterstock & Partners LLP, and Michael B. Rogers CC'80 of BNP Paribas
Cost: $10, members; $15, guests (includes panel and one drink)
RSVP: please email events@princetonclub.com with your name, affiliation, and the number of guests you will be bringing.
**There will be a special dinner menu available for all attendees in the Tiger Bar & Grill immediately following the event
