Law School Departments

Building Services
The Office of Building Services is responsible for general building management and can be contacted with questions about building services for events, as well as building problems such as repairs, room temperature issues, and card access to buildings.

The Office of Career Services and Professional Development offers individual career counseling related to the private sector and organizes interview programs with employers.

Comparative and International Law Programs
The Office of Comparative and International Law Programs designs and implements study abroad, student exchange, and international dual-degree programs. The office also assists students with international clerkships and internships.

Dean’s Office
Gillian Lester is the Dean and the Lucy G. Moses Professor of Law at Columbia Law School. She is the Law School’s 15th dean.

Development and Alumni Relations
The Office of Development and Alumni Relations is responsible for all fundraising, and for reunions, events, outreach, and programs related to alumni audiences.

Diamond Law Library
The Arthur W. Diamond Law Library provides a large number of services to faculty and students. It provides a professional environment for study and research, assistance in locating materials or information, and help obtaining materials from non-Columbia libraries via interlibrary loan.

Educational Technology
Educational Technology focuses on the support of the CourseWorks system and the development of course-related content on the web; management of legal information in the law clinics; along with other special projects that involve information and the curriculum.

Financial Aid
The Office of Financial Aid is responsible for evaluating applications for grant assistance (J.D. students only), processing all LL.M. and J.D. student loan applications; counseling students on budgeting and how to manage the costs of legal education; certifying J.D. students for federal work-study funding; disbursing institutional grants and stipends for all Law students, administering the Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) for J.D. graduates; and, in general, helping students with matters relating to their financial aid and funding options.

Graduate Legal Studies
The Office of Graduate Legal Studies administers all aspects of the LL.M. and J.S.D. programs, including admissions, orientation, graduation requirements, academic advising, and sponsoring academic and social events.

Human Resources
The Human Resources Department handles all employee paperwork, payroll processing, and salary-related transactions. This includes faculty and other academic appointments, administrative hires, casual employees, work-study students, and the processing of non-student fellowships.

Information Technology
The Department of Information Technology assists students with the use of technology at the Law School, such as computer-based training, computer labs, network services, Courseweb, LawNet, and Columbia Law School email support.

Registration Services
The Office of Registration Services is responsible for all aspects of Law School registration. It manages student academic records with the express purpose of facilitating completion of academic requirements and aiding in bar application certification.

Social Justice Initiatives
Social Justice Initiatives is responsible for professional development, career services, and community building for Columbia Law School students interested in public interest, government, and legal volunteer work, including the mandatory pro bono programs and gauranteed funding for summer internships in the public interest.

Student Services
The Office of Student Services offers academic and other counseling; works with student organizations and journals; assisting students in obtaining judicial clerkships; plans programs and events; assisting students with housing; coordinates health and wellness programs; and serves as a resource and sounding board for students as they navigate their way through Law School.
