Key dates for the 2027 program:

• Sunday, October 25, 2026 - application deadline

• Friday, November 6, 2026 - CLS nominations announced

• February 4-6, 2027: In-person program in Washington, D.C.

The CLS Fellows are joined in the program with students from other select law schools. At the heart of the program is the presentation by each Fellow of a paper, to be submitted in a five-to-eight-page executive summary for review by the other participants and a group of outstanding law professors, judges, and practitioners. A one-page abstract of the paper outlining an issue or question in international law is required as part of your application for nomination by Columbia Law School.

2L, 3L and LL.M. students with strong international law interest and/or backgrounds are encouraged to apply.  Students who have a completed paper or who have a paper in progress are particularly encouraged to apply.

A maximum of four students will be nominated by Columbia Law School.

The online application allows you to upload the following required application materials:

• Cover letter addressed to Dean Abebe (one-page maximum) explaining your background and interest in the Cutler Program

• Unofficial Columbia Law School transcript (if printing from LawNet, make sure your name is visible)

• Resume or CV

• One-page MAXIMUM abstract (if you are writing under the supervision of a CLS faculty member, please identify the professor)
