Benjamin Alden

Ben Alden is Chief Legal Officer of Betterment, an automated investing service that manages over $20 billion in assets for more than 480,000 customers. In this role, Ben provides legal, compliance, and business counsel to the company and manages its mission-driven in house legal, compliance, and risk and infosec teams. Prior to joining Betterment, Ben worked as an associate at Sullivan & Cromwell and Spears & Imes, and served as a law clerk to Judge Colleen McMahon of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. He also has experience working as a management consultant. Ben earned his J.D. from Stanford Law School and his B.A. from Cornell University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
