Larry D. Johnson
Mr. Larry D. Johnson served at United Nations Headquarters as the Assistant-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs from 2006-2008 (Deputy Legal Counsel of the UN). He formerly served as the Legal Adviser of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna (1997-2001) and as Chef de Cabinet, Office of the President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague (2003-2005).
Mr. Johnson joined the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs in 1971 as an Assistant Legal Officer in the Codification Division and prior to his last posting at Headquarters served as Principal Legal Officer in the Office of the Legal Counsel (1989-1997). Among his special assignments was serving as Chief of Staff to the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, United Nations Protection Force in the former Yugoslavia (1994).
Previously he taught at the University of California, Davis, School of Law as the Homer G. and Ann Berryhill Angelo Visiting Professor of International Law (2001-2002) and as Visiting Professor of International Law at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University (2005-2006), as well as at other academic institutions. Among the organizations to which he belongs are the Council on Foreign Relations and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
Mr. Johnson received is B.A. from the University of Nebraska (1967), his J.D. from Harvard Law School (1970) and his M.P.A. from the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University (1971).
