SJI Monday: Human Trafficking and Racial Discrimination in the Wake of Hurricane Katrina

Chandra S. Bhatnagar will discuss the ACLU's multi-pronged representation of over 500 Indian men trafficked into the U.S. as guestworkers and subjected to abuse, involuntary servitude, and racial discrimination in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Lead counsel on their behalf, he recently argued before the U.N., the U.S. Congress, and the Fifth Circuit. An LL.M graduate of Columbia Law School with a focus in international human rights, Mr. Bhatnagar has worked at several organizations in the U.S. including the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund and the Center for Constitutional Rights. He will remain for a while after his talk to speak to students interested in doing human rights work.
