STEPS to End Family Violence is an organization that provides comprehensive, trauma-informed case management, crisis counseling, clinical intervention, and services to promote economic self-sufficiency to victims of domestic violence throughout New York City. Each student participating in the STEPS to End Family Violence Project will be assigned a client. This client will be an adult victim of domestic or dating violence. Generally, each client will face a different legal issue such as VAWAs, U-Visas, or naturalization petitions. Students will first receive training in a range of common issues. Then, depending on the specific needs of the client, the student will provide corresponding legal assistance.
STEPS to End Family Violence Project is open to all students and counts toward fulfilling the mandatory pro-bono requirement for 2Ls and 3Ls. This session is for students who participated in the training on February 22nd and are now eligible to conduct client intakes. Students will work with clients to conduct intakes and assist them on their specific legal issues. Feel free to contact Katie Kettle at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
