The Honorable David F. Hamilton
United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit
In November 2009, Judge David F. Hamilton was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
From 1994 to 2009, he served as a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Indiana, and was that court’s chief judge from 2008 to 2009. Judge Hamilton grew up in southern Indiana, graduated from Haverford College and Yale Law School, and served as a law clerk for Judge Richard D. Cudahy of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals from 1983 to 1984.
He practiced law as an associate and then a partner at Barnes & Thornburg in Indianapolis, and he served as counsel to the Governor of Indiana from 1989 to 1991.
