Juvenile Court Monitoring Project
Recently, immigration courts have been ordered to set up "surge dockets" to manage and expedite the increase in juvenile and family cases. The court at 26 Federal Plaza is anticipating seeing 35 children per day indefinitely. The Door, an immigration advocacy organization, will be working with laws schools in the New York area to place student observers at these proceedings at all times so they can give accurate data on the sufficiency of the proceedings to the media, impact litigation orgs, funders, legislators, and other stakeholders. Students can sign up for morning or afternoon slots Monday through Friday.
