Open Contracting - Mexico City
CAPI and the Government of Mexico City
Mexico City just became the first city worldwide to fulfill all five phases of the Open Contracting Data Standard. Mayor Mancera first announced the City's intention to build an open contracting portal in his keynote address at CAPI's Global Cities conference last April. On June 20, 2016, just over a year later, Mayor Mancera launched the portal at a press conference in the Archivo Histórico del Distrito Federal (Mexico City Historical Archive) building.
Created in consultation with the not-for-profit civic consulting firm, Bloomberg Associates, and the direct involvement of CAPI Advisory Board Chair Rose Gill Hearn, this new portal empowers Mexico City's citizens to see exactly how their government spends their money. Thanks to the technical support of the Open Contracting Partnership, Gobierno Facil, and El Instituto Mexicano para la Competitividad, the portal shines a light on the contracting process, from tender to implementation, of the City's finance department (with more agencies soon to follow).
