Access to Special Collections
Special Collections is closed to all patrons until Tuesday, September 4, 2018.
Special Collections material may be consulted in the Milton Handler Rare Books and Manuscripts Room from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday upon appointment. This room is equipped with book cradles, soft lighting, and other resources designed to help ensure the longevity of the Library's collection. In that vein, no bags, coats, pens, flash photography, food, or liquids are permitted in the room. Personal items may be checked with the circulation desk while using the room. Pencils, notepads, computers, and cameras with the flash disabled are welcome.
All Special Collections material is stored in closed stacks on-site and can be retrieved upon request during business hours. Requests may be made in person to the Reference Librarian on duty.
Scholars unaffiliated with Columbia University should coordinate their visit with Heath Mayhew (for visits beginning September 4th) prior to their arrival so that they may be issued a visitor's pass.
For limited assistance by telephone, contact the Reference Department at (212) 854-3743.
