Patrick Bolton

Patrick Bolton, the Barbara and David Zalaznick Professor of Business, received his Ph.D. from the London School of Economics in 1986. He also holds a B.A. in economics from the University of Cambridge and a B.A. in political science from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris.
From 1991 to 1994, Bolton served as the Cassel Professor of Money and Banking at the London School of Economics. He served as the John H. Scully ’66 Professor of Finance and Economics at Princeton University from 1998 to 2005. Bolton joined the faculty at Columbia Business School in July of 2005.
Bolton’s main research areas of interest are contract theory and contracting issues in corporate finance and industrial organization. He recently published a graduate textbook, Contract Theory, with Mathias Dewatripont, and he has co-edited a book with Howard Rosenthal, Credit Markets for the Poor.
Bolton is managing editor of the Journal of the European Economic Association.
