Nicholas Kourides has been a lecturer of law at Columbia Law School since 1994. He has worked since 2007 at the American International Group, Inc., where he is deputy general counsel and head of global regulatory and federal reserve supervision, mergers and acquisitions, and investments and financial services.

Prior to joining the American International Group, Kourides worked in various capacities at American Express for more than 20 years. He served as managing counsel to American Express’ international division and as a member of the chairman’s global management team. He also served as general counsel to American Express Bank.

Kourides has also been the vice president and senior associate counsel co-head of the global finance group at the Chase Manhattan Bank from 1983 to 1997. He was an associate in corporate development at Debevoise & Plimpton from 1972 to 1983.

He is a member of the board of advisors for the School of Continuing and Professional Studies and the Center for Global Affairs at New York University. Kourides has been a member of the board of directors for the Columbia Journal of Transnational Law since 1979 and has serves as chairman of the Hellenic-American Cultural Foundation.

Kourides was a member of the New York State Department of Banking from 2008 to 2012, has been as member of the board of trustees at Manhattanville College since 2003.

Kourides clerked for the Honorable Richard H. Levet of the United States District Court in the Southern District of New York from 1971 to 1972. He was a teaching fellow at the International College of Beirut from 1967 to 1968.
