Michael Shumsky is a partner at Kirkland & Ellis, where he maintains an active Supreme Court and appellate docket focusing on complex civil litigation. Shumsky has extensive experience representing pharmaceutical companies in high-stakes regulatory proceedings and has litigated several recent Supreme Court cases involving federal preemption of state tort claims targeting FDA-regulated drug products. In 2013, Law360 and Super Lawyers each named Shumsky a “Rising Star.”
Shumsky clerked for the Honorable Diarmuid F. O’Scannlain on the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Shumsky earned his J.D. from Yale Law School in 2003, where he served as a book reviews editor on the Yale Law Journal. He received his A.B. from Harvard College in 2000, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
