Caleb Hayes-Deats is an Assistant United States Attorney in the civil division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. He handles primarily fraud, tax, and civil rights cases. In 2016, Caleb was part of a team that, following a five-week jury trial, won a $92 million mortgage-fraud verdict against Allied Home Mortgage and its former CEO. Earlier that year, he was part of a separate team that negotiated a $1.2 billion settlement of mortgage-fraud claims against Wells Fargo Home Mortgage.

Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Caleb clerked for the Honorable Jed S. Rakoff of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, and the Honorable Robert A. Katzmann of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Caleb graduated from Amherst College in 2006 and Columbia Law School in 2011. While in law school, he served as an articles editor for the Columbia Law Review.
