Vice Dean for Experiential Education
As vice dean, Brett Dignam oversees the Law School’s full range of experiential learning opportunities. Dignam, clinical professor of law, is a leading advocate of prisoners’ rights and established the Challenging the Consequences of Mass Incarceration Clinic. She has supervised students in a broad range of litigation matters on behalf of state and federal prisoners, including cases on conditions of con nement. In 2013, she and a team of eight recent Columbia Law School graduates successfully tried a federal habeas case that led to the release of a man who had suffered more than 18 years of wrongful incarceration. Earlier in her career, Dignam represented prisoners in private practice and served as an attorney in the Criminal Appeals and Tax Enforcement Policy Section of the U.S. Department of Justice.
