Beatrice Mtetwa, one of Zimbabwe’s most respected lawyers and human rights defenders, will discuss the challenges she has experienced working to protect civil and political rights in Zimbabwe and her strategies for successful advocacy.  Ms. Mtetwa will discuss her efforts to defend human rights and promote the rule of law, as well as how she has navigated repeated reprisals from the government for her work.

Beatrice Mtetwa has litigated on human rights since 1990 with emphasis on freedom of expression and freedom of the media, and respect for all rights as enshrined in the Constitution of Zimbabwe and international human rights law.  She has received local and international recognition for her work, and was recently named as one of Harvard Law School’s 2019 Honorees on International Women’s Day.
