Founded in 2010, EWOC is dedicated to advancing the needs of women of color, a community often underserved in traditional affinity groups. Five years ago, we held our first annual Gala to celebrate the legacy of Constance Baker Motley, a Columbia Law School alumna, who was the first female attorney at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. She was also the first African-American woman to sit in a State Senate and the first African-American woman to be appointed to serve as a U.S. District Court Judge for the Southern District of New York. This year is EWOC’s 10th Anniversary, and this year’s theme, “Lifting as We Climb: Building Community and Advancing Diversity,” pays homage to Constance Baker Motley’s legacy by celebrating women who, like her, are shaping our future and paving the way for women of color to succeed and lead in legal careers and positions of authority. We are excited to be honoring former U.S. Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch and Keerthana Nimmala '16 this year!
