Wednesday, February 27th at 6:00pm, "’Defunding’ Efforts in the Wake of Anti-Abortion Extremism”
Mai Ratakonda, Staff Attorney, Public Policy Litigation & Law, Planned Parenthood Federation of America
In 2015, anti-abortion extremists published highly edited and misleading videos regarding a small number of Planned Parenthood affiliates' facilitation of patients' desire to donate fetal tissue for research. Politicians across the country seized on these videos as an excuse to kick Planned Parenthood out of various government funding programs. If successful, these "defunding" efforts will have (and have had) a devastating impact on patients who seek necessary and vital reproductive health care.
In coordination with their current class “Reproductive Rights and Practices,” Professors Carol Sanger and Magda Schaler-Haynes warmly invite you to attend a speaker series concerning various aspects of the regulation of reproduction. These talks are set out below and will start promptly at 6 pm in William and June Warren Hall Room 103 (unless otherwise announced). The speakers are at the forefront of litigation, legislation, and policy and we are proud to open the sessions up to the entire CLS student body and Columbia community. Our cutting edge topics include reproductive care for service women, menstrual equality and the “tampon tax,” Catholic Health Care systems, and employment protection for nursing mothers.
These lectures are open to the Columbia community. So that we can accomodate interested students who are not registered for the class, please email Ghislaine Pages, [email protected], if you plan to attend.
