Are you involved in a project seeking to have impact at Columbia Law School or in the broader community that you want to develop further next semester?

Might you be interested in applying for a grant that would provide some resources and support to develop this project further, and connect you within a community of change agents?

Do you want to brainstorm with other students, faculty, and staff about how these projects could have greater impact and become sustainable going forward?

If your answer is "yes" to any of the above questions, we invite you to apply for an Innovation Grant, due on February 1, and to join us for an Innovation Grants Workshop on Wednesday, January 23 from 4:20-6:10 PM in Case Lounge. There you will have the opportunity to participate in a design-lab that will 1) walk you through the process of developing your project ideas into a concrete proposal for an Innovation Grant, 2) allow you to brainstorm and/or further develop your project ideas, and 3) learn about possibilities for collaboration.

What exactly is an Innovation Grant?

Launching in January 2019 as part of the Leadership Initiative at CLS, the Innovation Grants RFP will provide resources and support for the development and implementation of collaborative projects aimed at having an impact at Columbia Law School and in the broader community.

Who is eligible to apply?

Full-time students, faculty, and staff are eligible to apply. Collaborative projects among student organizations and between students, faculty, and staff are encouraged.

What kind of support will the grant provide?

The grants may provide resources and/or expertise needed to launch the project, develop tools for use in the project, develop and host events that will build collaboration, community, and capacity, or provide other resources or support for the project’s success and sustainability. The grants will ordinarily range from $1,000 to $2,000, with the possibility of a grant up to $5,000 if the need and value have been demonstrated. Recipients will also join a cohort of innovators interested in learning with and from each other about how to maximize the impact and sustainability of their projects.

What criteria are you looking for?

Project proposals will be evaluated for their innovativeness, importance, cultivation of collaborations and leadership capacity, potential for impact, and sustainability. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to participate in an innovation lab series intended to enhance project impact and sustainability. Applications are due by February 1, 2018, and the results of the selection process will be announced on February 8.

Additional guidelines will be shared during the workshop, as part of a design workshop and Q&A.  If you have any questions about the Innovation Grant RFP or are unable to attend the workshop during the scheduled time, please email [email protected] and [email protected] for more information.
