Recommended Courses
It is useful to take a substantive course strongly influenced by administrative agency action alongside this course. Federal Courts is also a useful course to take.

Other Limitations
2L students MUST previously have taken "Legislation and Regulation"; all 3L students and LLM candidates may take the course; the course is NOT open to students who have taken a regular course on American administrative law.

Learning Outcome Goals

Primary Goals

  • At the end of the course, students will have acquired understanding of and/or facility in the elements of administrative law studied, including major policy concerns
  • At the end of the course, students will have acquired understanding of and/or facility in statutory and regulatory analysis, including close reading of statutes and regulations, and application to facts
  • Students will have acquired an understanding of the structure of federal administrative agencies and the government in which they are embedded, and the ways in which both internal and external law shape their conduct.

Secondary Goals

  • Students will acquire familiarity with the digital age tools and facilities of administrative law, and consider the ways in which they may influence its practice.
