Learning Outcome Goals

Primary Goals

  • At the end of the course, students will have acquired understanding of and/or facility in various lawyering skills, for example, oral advocacy, legal writing and drafting, legal research, negotiation, and client communication
  • Students will acquire an understanding of and/or facility in the legal, ethical and professional issues related to working for or advocating at the UN.
  • At the end of the course, students will have acquired an understanding of and/or facility in the influences of national governments, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, international civil services and other political institutions in the development and implementation of UN law and policy
  • At the end of the course, students will have acquired an understanding of and/or facility in their capacity to see and evaluate different strategies for promoting and influencing UN law and policy.
  • At the end of the course, students will have acquired an understanding of and/or capacity to critically analyze, reflect upon and incorporate the knowledge, skills and attributes of effective lawyers operating in an international organization setting.

Secondary Goals

  • At the end of the course, students will have acquired understanding of and/or facility in the historical development of law and legal institutions
  • At the end of the course, students will have acquired understanding of and/or facility in judicial, legislative and/or administrative processes
