Yu-jie Chen, consultant to the U.S.-Asia Law Institute at NYU School of Law, will discuss how Taiwan has successfully transitioned from an authoritarian regime to one of the most vibrant democracies in Asia and made major progress in improving human rights and the rule of law. What institutions make this achievement possible? What are the challenges facing Taiwan today and how can they be addressed? Can Taiwan be a pioneer in the Asian region in the protection of human rights? Co-sponsored by the Center for Chinese Legal Studies and the Weatherhead East Asian Institute.
