As an intern with the Rule of Law Unit in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, she worked on a project entitled The Rule of Law and Development: Issues for the Post-2015 Agenda and provided suggestions for the draft of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Currently, she is a research assistant at the Columbia Law School Human Rights Institute.
Elena’s J.S.D. dissertation focuses on global obligations of multiple actors to cooperate and assist for the realization of the right to a decent standard of living. She pays special attention to extraterritorial obligations of states, international organizations and non-state actors presupposed by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Her interdisciplinary research emphasizes the interrelation between philosophical discourse, normative legal order and legal practice and demonstrates how contemporary theories of global justice can promote justifying, conceptualizing, allocating and implementing extraterritorial obligations in the field of socio-economic rights.
