Section Description
This seminar explores the historical and contemporary intersection of race and racism with American law and legal institutions. Among other things, the course will interrogate how the concept of race has influenced law and legal thought, and how law and legal thought have influenced the concept of race. This course provides an opportunity to investigate basic assumptions about race, law, and racial justice, and develop sophisticated analyses of those assumptions, in a respectful and collegial environment. Because the seminar will culminate in a scholarly paper, many of the readings will consist of law review articles and other non-case materials.
