Room Reservation Policies
Columbia Law School faculty, staff, recognized student groups, and Columbia University affiliates may request space in the Law School.
The Room Reservations team looks forward to working with you to secure space at the Law School for your events and programs. We would like to take a moment to answer a few of the most frequently asked questions about the room reservation procedure, and remind you of some of the protocols.
Space requests should be made via the Virtual EMS portal, using your login credentials. Questions or difficulties with EMS can be directed to email@example.com.
Space in the Law School’s buildings will be confirmed after the curriculum schedule is finalized. This schedule is usually received and input into the system at the end of July in advance of the August curriculum, the week before Labor Day in advance of the Fall semester, and in the middle of January in advance of the Spring semester. We will place a tentative hold on the calendar for requests received before the course schedule is finalized. Please note that the hold will be converted to a confirmation once the curriculum schedule is finalized and the Change of Program period has ended. If your request is for an event to be held during the Change of Program period, we will do our best to confirm as soon as possible, but room assignments confirmed during this time are subjective to change if classroom assignments change.
Please note the confirmation of a specific room can be subject to change as other competing needs and priorities emerge. While we do our best to prevent the relocation of an event, sometimes it cannot be avoided given the number of events and limited availability of space. If we need to relocate your event, rest assured you will be contacted as soon as possible and we will do our best to move the event to a similar space.
Please be reminded that all non-class faculty and center events must be approved by the Dean’s Office and, once approved, the details must be entered into LawCal.
