Columbia Law School funds first and second-year J.D. students to work in unpaid, public service internships and government agencies if they register on time and meet the requirements of the Public Service Fellowship program. The program will pay 1L students up to $3360 for eight weeks of public interest work and will pay 2L students up to $6,000 for ten weeks of public interest work.
Students can use their summer funding for any law-related employment in the public interest, in the U.S. or abroad, that utilizes their legal education and skills. Placements shall include not-for-profit 501(c)(3) public interest law organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), international criminal courts, government agencies (federal, state, municipal, international and multinational), unions and, in some cases, public interest law firms.
