Welcome Letter from Ira M. Millstein
Dear Friends of the Millstein Center,
Welcome to the 2013 Millstein Governance Forum. This year's forum consists of five plenary sessions, six smaller topic-specific breakout sessions, as well as the Gala Dinner and Rising Stars Reception – and plenty of opportunities for networking, as always.
The theme of this year’s event, our eighth annual Forum, is “Corporate Governance in the New ‘Normal’: The Impact of New Patterns of Corporate Ownership.” The goal is to stimulate discussion and explore macro and micro issues related to changes in the global capital markets, and the impact of new forms of corporate ownership, on corporate governance. Sessions will focus on board-shareholder communications, the impact of new technologies, short-termism, and the impact of increased global competition, among others.
Our existing convening power, coupled with our mission and newly refined focus, has enabled us to us to embark on new exciting and valuable projects and programs which will continue to bring together practitioners, academics, and policy makers.
We anticipate robust attendance from leading institutional investors, corporate directors and executives, regulators, academics, corporate governance advisors, ratings agencies, executive search firms and other experts around the world comprising the governance community. We look forward to engaging with all of you on these critical matters, and hope you find the discussions as rewarding as we always do.
We express our sincere gratitude to our many sponsors, partners, and friends, who continue to lend their support to the Center’s new incarnation. These include our Board and Leadership, Deloitte, and many others, such as the CFA Institute; IRRC Institute; Weil, Gotshal and Manges; and Broadridge. And, a special thanks to our colleagues at the Columbia Law School and Columbia University, who have helped settle us in our new home – and of course helped organize this event.
Please enjoy the 2013 Millstein Governance Forum!
