  Turkmen Lesbian Granted Asylum   
Columbia Law School's Sexuality and Gender Law Clinic secured asylum for a Turkmen woman who feared persecution in this mostly Muslin country because she is a lesbian and because of her political opinions.
  Columbia Law School Wins Special Award for Legal Writing   
Columbia Law School is one of two law schools in the nation that will receive a special Record of Distinction Award from the Burton Foundation, an organization that honors law school students for effective legal writing.
  Immigration Defense Externship Gives Students Hands-on Training   
With one of the largest foreign-born populations in the country, New York City gives Columbia Law students the opportunity to serve as advocates for immigrants. Participants in the new Immigration Defense Externship work with clients in Washington Heights who seek legal representation and advice.
  Record Year for Full-time Faculty Hires   
Philip Bobbitt, Ronald Mann and Matthew Waxman have accepted offers to join the Columbia Law Faculty, effective July 1, 2007.

The 2007 New Yorker Conference featured a talk by Professor Tim Wu on the current battles in intellectual property law.
  Prof. Hemphill Testifies on House Bill   
C. Scott Hemphill, Associate Professor of Law, testified before a congressional subcommittee hearing on a bill concerning consumer access to generic drugs.
  Child Advocacy Clinic to Represent Adolescents in Foster Care   
Students in the clinic, directed by Professor Jane Spinak, will give youths aging out of the foster care system a say in their future.
