Professor Liebman Recognized for Mediation Work

Professor Carol Liebman received the first-ever "Frontline Champion" award at Mediation Settlement Day in October for her work to promote mediation as a creative and cost-effective tool to resolve conflicts. The award recognized her accomplishments as a clinical professor, mediator, trainer, and author. Prof. Liebman has taught worldwide on negotiation, mediation, and legal education. She also served as principal investigator of the Demonstration Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Project, which looked at ways mediation techniques could improve patient-physician communication after adverse medical events. Her current research, with Chris Stern Hyman, focuses on mediation of medical malpractice cases.

The annual Mediation Settlement Day is sponsored by NASD Dispute Resolution, in conjunction with the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the New York State Unified Court System, and over one hundred national and regional alternative dispute resolution programs, bar associations, service organizations, and schools.
