The Columbia Journal of Transnational Law is pleased to announce that Professor Giuliano Amato is the recipient of the 2004 Wolfgang Friedmann Memorial Award. Professor Amato is a former Prime Minister of Italy and Vice President of the Convention on the Future of Europe. He currently teaches at the European University Institute in Florence, New York University Law School, and is Visiting Faculty at Columbia Law School. He has published on the topics of the economy and public institutions, personal liberties, federalism, and comparative government.
Professor Amato will be honored at the 30th Annual Friedmann Banquet, at the Mark Hotel in Manhattan, on Tuesday, March 30, 2004, where he will deliver the keynote address to be published in Volume 43 of the Journal.
Every year since 1975 the Journal has presented the Friedmann Award to a distinguished scholar or practitioner who has made outstanding contributions to the field of international law. Past recipients of the award include Professor Harold Hungju Koh (2003); Dr. Hans Blix (2002); James A. Baker III (1996); Boutros Boutros-Ghali (1995); and Philip C. Jessup (1975).
The Journal is the oldest student-run journal of international law. It was founded in 1961 by the late Wolfgang Friedmann, a professor of international law at Columbia Law School, and has since enjoyed premier status in the international legal community.
