Annual Fund

Unrestricted gifts to the Annual Fund provide resources where they are most needed. They allow support to be driven to the areas that are at the core of the Law School’s mission.

To make the impact of your gift more tangible, there are six areas toward which you can direct your Annual Fund contribution. By designating your support for one of the giving programs below, you can make a greater impact on a field of your interest:

For use at the Dean’s Discretion
Unrestricted gifts provide Dean Gillian Lester with the flexibility to fund urgent and immediate needs of the Law School, while sustaining existing programs and services that are at the core of the Law School’s mission.

Faculty Support
Columbia Law School’s 87 full-time professors are all leaders in the legal academy. A gift to support faculty enables the Law School to recruit and retain the most distinguished scholars, fund their research, and bring outstanding visitors into the community from around the world.

International and LL.M. Programs
For more than a century, Columbia has been a pioneer in teaching and research in the fields of international, foreign, and comparative law. Our geographically diverse student body is a testament to the Law School’s transnational culture, which immerses each of its students in the legal systems of other nations and international organizations. Your support of LL.M and International programs will provide scholarships and fund programs for LL.M. and international students, and build upon our history of leadership and distinction in the field of international law.

Student Support
Student Support gifts provide scholarship assistance so that our student body continues to include the best and brightest scholars, regardless of their financial status. These gifts enrich our academic offerings, advance our students’ careers through academic and career counseling, and sustain the work of our clinics.

Learning Environment
The Law School's state-of-the-art facilities include two buildings of instruction, an additional facility to house social justice initiatives and clinical programs, and a 211-unit residence tower. The support of our Learning Environment program benefits our students and faculty by providing the best possible environment for living and learning.

Social Justice Programs
As the birthplace of international human rights law, Columbia Law School prepares its graduates to safeguard justice at home and around the world. By contributing to the Social Justice program, you can support our Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) and make sure that a career in public service is a choice that all students can embrace. Your gift enables our Social Interest Initiatives office to be a hub for public interest courses, clinics, internships, and pro bono programs.

No matter where you decide to focus your support, please know that the Law School directly benefits from every dollar received. Every graduate is encouraged to participate in the Annual Fund during the July 1 to June 30 academic year.
