Abdus-Salaam Earns Seat on New York Court of Appeals

Fall 2013

This past June, Sheila Abdus-Salaam ’77 was sworn in as the newest member of the New York Court of Appeals, the state’s highest court. Abdus-Salaam is the first African-American woman to serve on the Court of Appeals. She previously served as an associate justice of the First Department of the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court. Several Law School graduates, including U.S. Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr. ’76, attended Abdus-Salaam’s swearing-in ceremony in Albany.
