State Department Officials Visit HRI

Fall 2010

Columbia Law School’s Human Rights Institute (HRI) hosted a fact-finding
visit by officials in the Obama administration earlier this year. State Department representatives spent the day touring public housing locations in Harlem and speaking with human rights advocates at the Law School. Discussions focused primarily on housing, as well as on education, health, employment, and
criminal justice.

The consultation trip was part of the United Nations’ Universal Periodic Review, which requires member nations to submit reports to the Human Rights Council.
