The Periodical and Treatise Indexes on this page are Indexes to legal literature - mainly to articles published in law-related periodicals. These tools will allow you to search by article title, article author, subject, or keyword to locate citations to law-related articles of interest. Typically, these sources do not include a full-text electronic version of the article (see the Electronic Journals category for that).

The Databases items on this page include electronic subscription collections of primary legal materials and sometimes of commentary on those materials. These sources often, but not always, include full-text sources and allow full-text searching.

    HeinOnline's Treaties and Agreements library includes a formidable array of U.S. treaty sources in PDF format. Bevans, UST, TIAS, KAV documents and more are reproduced in full. Treaties in Force and the Guide to the United States Treaties in Force are also included. Includes a powerful search mechanism.

    ILDC includes the texts of domestic cases in international law from over 60 jurisdictions. It includes expert commentary, full texts of judgments in their original language and translations of key passages of non-English judgments into English.

  • ISI Emerging Markets. Columbia University campus, or Law School affiliates only.

    This is a database of electronic business information products for the World's emerging markets. It covers countries in Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, Asia, Southeast Europe and Africa and the Middle East. Many of the countries listed have a legal database. Look for a subject tab called 'legal' at the top of the page.

  • Official Document System of the United Nations (ODS).
    An official UN site, and formerly known as the UN Optical Disk System, this database includes images of recent UN documents. Database is available for free to the public.

  • TIARA U.S. Treaties Researcher. Law School campus, or Law School affiliates; 1 user.

    A commercial service published by Oceana, this database features the text of over 11,500 treaties ratified by the U.S. from 1783 to the present.  Only one user can use this database at a time, so please be sure to logoff of the database when you are finished with your search.

  • Transnational Dispute Management. Law School campus or Law School affiliates only.
    This global transnational dispute management portal, provides information on developments in the fields of arbitration and dispute magagement. The website includes access to the Transnational Dispute Management Journal, published every two months

  • UN Treaty Collection. Columbia University campus, or Law School affiliates only.

    Includes the text of bilateral and multilateral treaties published in the UN Treaty Series.  Available from the Columbia University campus.  Proxy service is available for members of the Law School community.

  • World Intellectual Property Report. Librarian assistance required.

  • WorldTradeLaw.net. WorldTradeLaw.net has no access restrictions.
    Searchable full texts of the WTO and NAFTA agreements, GATT panel reports, WTO panel and appellate reports and arbitration decisions and NAFTA Chapter 20 panel reports.

    Current Law is a service that provides access to decisions that have not yet been published or digested in the bound volumes of the Canadian Human Rights Reporter (5th floor, KE7722.C5 A71).     ChinaLawInfo is a database of Chinese statutes, regulations, cases, government policies, legal news, treatises and law review articles. It was launched by Peking University. Columbia has access to both the English website and the Chinese version. Access is by IP address, available from the Columbia University campus (Morningside Heights campus only). Only one user can use it at a time, so please be sure to log off when finished.

  • China Law and Practice. Librarian assistance required.
    This website provides access to the online version of China Law and Practice (Cellar, Ch.P 030 C4407). It includes a searchable archive of current and past issues of the paper publication, and access to the contents of new issues up to 14 days before the print version. For access, please go to the Reference Office.

  • Constitutions of the Countries of the World. Law School campus, or Law School affiliates only; 1 user.

    Published by Oceana, this database includes the constitutions and related documents of 192 countries, and corresponds with their looseleaf set of the same name. Note that the 'print' option is located in the 'document details' section. Access is available by IP address from the Columbia Law School Campus. Only one user can use this database at a time, so please be sure to logoff of the database when you are finished with your search.

  • Egyptian Legal Portal - Al-Bawabah al-qanuniyah. Librarian assistance required.
    Tashreaat is an Egyptian legal database providing a complete reference to Egyptian legislation, rulings of the high courts (Supreme Constitutional Court, the Court of Cassation and the Supreme Administrative Court) and related legal material from Egypt. User may also view the Egyptian Gazette, studies by prominent councils, lawyers’ directory and legal news. Research is only available in Arabic. You may need to modify your display settings and change the screen resolution to 800x600 pixels to view the site.
  • Foreign Law Guide: Current Sources of Codes and Basic Legislation in Jurisdictions of the World. Law School campus only. Click on "Subscriber Login (IP Authentication.)"
    This database provides information on sources of foreign law for most countries. It includes citations to legislation, references to translations when available, and select secondary sources. This database is commonly referred to as "Reynolds and Flores" (the names of the authors). Available from the law school campus only.

  • HeinOnline-Foreign & International Law Resource Database.

  • Indlaw. Law School campus only.
    Indlaw is an Internet provider of research modules relating to Indian legal, tax, business and regulatory issues. It provides the full-text of Indian cases, legislation, treaties and more and includes a user-friendly search function.

  • Inter-Am Database for Latin American Legal Materials. Librarian assistance required.

  • Isinolaw. Law School campus, or Law School affiliates only; 1 user.

    Database of Chinese law. Only one user allowed at a time, so please logout when finished. The system can be slow. We recommend using MS Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher.  Internationalized (UTF-8 Unicode) encoding is necessary to read Chinese text.
  • La Ley Paraguay.  Librarian assistance required.                    
    This database includes legislation, cases and doctrine from Paraguay in Spanish.  Access is by password.  Please go to the reference desk to access this source.

  • Lloyd's Law Reports. Librarian assistance required.
  • Jutastat. Librarian assistance required.
    This African database includes access to Constitutional Library, Juta's Daily Law Reports, Juta's Digest of South African Law, Jutastat's Statutes of South Africa, the South African Law Reports (1947-current), the Law Reports of Zimbabwe, Statutes of Zimbabwe, Botswana Law Reports, Tanzania Law Reports, Zambia Law Reports, and Namibian Law Reports. Available only with the assistance of librarians, researchers should go to the reference desk to use this database.

  • LawAfrica.com. Librarian assistance required.
    This database includes case law from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and the Comesa Court of Justice. It is available with the assistance of librarians. Researchers should go to the reference desk to use this database.
