University Facilities Operations Event Support Fees

Custodial Services

Custodial Services are provided when events require large, after hours and/or time-consuming furniture reconfigurations and/or when Custodial Services is already heavily involved in providing support services for the event or other events.  Custodial Services are required for cleaning after any high-attendance event or event providing food and in advance of high-profile events.

  • Student events held during the custodial staff's regular hours, 6:30 AM and 2:30 PM, during which food is served, are subject to a two hour minimum at $43/hour, for a total of $86.
  • All events held after 2:30 PM, during which food is served, are subject to the four hour minimum at $56 per hour, for a total of $224.

Custodial Service Notes:

  • No other entity other than custodial services may perform cleaning services.  The custodial cleaning service fee can not be avoided for food-inclusive events.
  • Different events may be consolidated, so it is possible that groups will be charged less than the estimated amount.
  • The size of an event dictates how much cleaning coverage is needed.  For example, an event with 100 guests will require (2) custodians, at a (4) hour minimum, $43 per hour rate.  Larger scale events like the Deans' Cup & PILF Live Auction warrant an even larger custodial crew for handling the heavy volume of clean up and setup/breakdown responsibilities.
  • The above charges assume no additional moving, cleanup or labor required beyond what would normally be anticipated, and would apply in the vast majority of cases.  However, if, for example, there is extensive damage to carpet, etc., charges would increase to reflect damage and restoration, and/or actual time it took to get the carpet clean.
  • Additional costs may be incurred when furniture needs to be rearranged or removed from the room, or where extensive set up is required (i.e. a caterer brings in tables in advance of an event.)  In such instances, there may be additional hours of work required at $56 per hour, or movers or other labor may be required, which would prompt a separate labor charge.
  • To estimate these charges, students must detail furniture requirements, what furniture needs to be moved or brought in, where the furniture should go, how long the event will be, what type of food and food service there will be, where the caterer will set up, etc.  After this information is provided to building events, which should take place at least one week in advance of the event, the costs can be estimated.  Again, if students discover they are charged more than the amount, they should let Student Services and Student Senate know.
  • Coat check is a separate service provided by custodians, at a (4) hour minimum, $43 per hour rate.
  • The cost for opening and closing the JG104/106 classroom wall partition is approximately $1,000, which includes setup/breakdown of the platform and furniture; pricing is dependent on the actual amount of labor required, and whether the work is handled during overtime or straight time.  This estimate is exclusive of any a/v setup/breakdown costs.  Two full hours before and after the event to complete the wall opening and closing is required, inclusive of a/v.  These estimates exclude mechanical, electrical or other difficulties.  For safety considerations, no one other than authorized personnel may be in the classroom while work is being performed.
  • Revson Plaza services generally include the following services: rental tables delivered and picked up by laborers, custodial setup/breakdown of rental tables, custodial clean up after the event, as well as an electrician to provide an appropriate length extension cord for an A/V setup or ice cream cart; the electrician secures the extension cord to prevent it from being a tripping hazard.  Custodial coverage is determined by the size of the anticipated crowd.
