Building Events

Building Services, including the Infocenter will always attempt to provide easels, tables, chairs and coat racks from our building inventory, at no cost, whenever possible. These items are for indoor use only. At the same time, we can not adversely impact other areas of Law School buildings by rearranging furniture, easels, etc. to accommodate an event. When this conflict occurs, rental furniture orders are placed through Special Events.

Security

Security is required to be present during high-attendance, high-profile and/or weekend events. An account number to charge is secured before the event. The current rates for Security services are:

  • The Day Rate (between hours of 8AM and 4PM) is $49.32 an hour.
  • The Night Rate (all other hours not in day rate) is $52.32 an hour.
  • The University holiday rate, regardless of time of day is $59.67 an hour.
  • The Supervisor rate is $60.70 an hour.

Other Support Services for Events, Classes, and Other Functions Furniture Rentals - Furniture in addition to or instead of Law School inventory and linens, is rented through the University's Special Events department. An account number to charge for rentals is requested before the event.

University Facilities Operations Event Support Fees

The actual cost for any event requiring Facilities Management support depends on several factors, including the time of day, day of week, amount of time and the cost of associated materials required to complete the job. There is a one-hour minimum labor charge for all jobs. The table of rates below provides a general sense of cost. Hourly rates include associated fringe and management costs. The different types, sizes and volume of events coordinated by Special Events makes it difficult to provide estimates for every event type.

Rentals 

The rental rates below should be associated with the corresponding category in the Hourly Rate table. The Equipment Rental chart provides daily rental rates for commonly used event items. Please note that the billing rates, tasks and rental charges above should not be used as a guide for all billable activities, but should be used as a tool to help event planners aware of certain charges that they may incur and give them a general idea of what the event could cost.

After we have received your order we will send you a fax confirmation. This will give you the opportunity to look over your order and make any necessary changes. It is necessary to sign off on the order and fax it back to Columbia University Catering.

We suggest a personal meeting to discuss all special events.

  • 15% Service Charge
  • $15.00 Delivery Charge On Orders Up To $100.00
  • 15% Service Charge On All Orders Above $100.00 Capped @ $75.00 On Drop Off Orders Not Requiring Staff
  • 15% Service Charge Which Includes Staffing On Orders That Require Attendants

** For All Functions That Require Staff, The 15% Service Charge Will NOT Be Capped Therefore Staffing Charges Are Included In This Service Charge.
