The Information Technology (IT) Department of Columbia Law School is committed to supporting, improving, and enriching the academic quality of the Law School. Columbia prioritizes information technology and effectively integrates it into the Law School's operations. One of the IT Department's primary goals is to provide exemplary service and support to all of our students by offering a wide portfolio of leading-edge technologies.
The technological services at Columbia Law School are second to none. Moreover, in order to meet the ever-changing requirements of our community, they are in a perpetual state of change and renewal. With the understanding that learning environments are no longer confined to a classroom, a building, or to a few hours a day, Columbia's information systems are stable, user-friendly, and accessible by design.
The IT Department offers a vast range of web-based services - including online registration tools, course webpages, and network storage - that affords students the freedom to learn and work from anywhere in the world at anytime. Specifically, online registration tools enable Columbia law students to conduct class registration, receive their grades, and complete course evaluations entirely over the internet.
Our course webpage system complements and supports the aforementioned online registration tools. In fact, since virtually every class at the Law School maintains a course webpage, the webpage system truly represents an online extension of the Law School classroom. This virtual academic community allows professors and students alike to share ideas and information. In addition, Faculty may often use these tools to manage their curriculum online, upload course materials, create and administer assignments, and facilitate online discussions between students.
Information technology at Columbia is supported not only by a team of dedicated and knowledgeable professionals, but by a robust network of wired and wireless classrooms. Knowing that students may wish to connect to resources with their laptops, or decide to use our institutional computing facilities, nearly every classroom is either wireless or wired, as is the majority of public space at the Law School. Networked computers, with access to secure file storage space and high-speed laser printers, are conveniently located throughout the Law School campus. Furthermore, many of the computer labs and kiosks designated exclusively for students are accessible 24 hours a day.
