Welcoming Remarks: Kai Gill ’17 and Janice J. Lee ’17
Hello, I’m Kai Gill and this is Janice Lee. As co-chairs of the Graduation Committee, we are delighted to celebrate with you here today.
Over the past three years, we have learned to become a part of the legal and Columbia Law School community. And it’s a responsibility that we’ll carry with us for the rest of our lives. Today we join a distinguished and accomplished alumni community. In doing so, we owe a debt of gratitude to the faculty and administrators, our fellow students, and most importantly, the friends and family who are here today, continuing to support us as we complete this journey. You’ve taken our frantic 2 a.m. phone calls during finals, you’ve listened to our rambles about EIP and the Bluebook without knowing what either of those things are, and you’ve helped us believe in ourselves and our dreams. Beyond just your support, we thank you for showing up to celebrate with us. We especially want to thank Mary Jo White, a distinguished and trailblazing alum, for her example and her remarks this morning.
Finally, thank you to the Class of 2017. You’ve taught me the importance of supporting one another—from my closest friends to the person who unknowingly let me use his or her empty locker all year, you inspire me to work harder and be better.
I’d now like to welcome Dean Gillian Lester, the Lucy G. Moses Professor of Law, to the podium.
