B.A., Texas, 1947; LL.B., 1949. Joined the faculty of the University of Texas School of Law upon graduation and remained there until 1956, except for a year as a graduate fellow at Harvard and one year as a visiting professor at Duke. Joined the Columbia faculty in 1957. Other visiting professorships include the University of California (Berkeley), Stanford University, and Southern Methodist University. Publications include Cases on Contracts (with Farnsworth) and Cases on Insurance (with E. M. Holmass). Has taught contracts, debtor-creditor law, and other commercial topics. Vice dean, Columbia Law School, 1977–79. Occasional adviser to the New York Law Revision Commission and Special Committee on Consumer Credit of the Commissioners on Uniform State Laws.
