Theodore Van Itallie

Taysen Van Itallie was Associate General Counsel of Johnson & Johnson with responsibility for global litigation and investigations, from 1996 to 2009. He is a former Director of the Division of Law, New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety, where he was responsible for civil litigation and administrative proceedings for the State of New Jersey. He was a partner at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler, where his practice consisted of trial and appellate work in patent, antitrust, complex commercial, product liability and employment litigation in a host of industries, including pharmaceutical, medical device, medical diagnostic, shipping, real estate, entertainment and publishing.
He has experience as a mediator with the U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey, Panel of Certified Mediators and was a Member of the CPR Panel of Distinguished Neutrals, New Jersey Panel and Technology Panel.
Taysen is a co-founder and former Executive Committee Chair of the Chief Litigation Counsel Association; Co-Chair, Civil Justice Reform Group Operating Committee 2006-2008; Executive Committee, CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution 2006-2008; Member, Board of Directors, American Tort Reform Association 2006-2008; member, European Justice Forum; Co-founder and President, 2006-2008, New Jersey Lawsuit Reform Alliance; and is a member of the Board of the New York advocacy group Fund For Modern Courts.
He is a 1977 graduate of Columbia University School of Law where he was Kent and Stone Scholar, and a 1973 cum laude graduate of Harvard College.
