Melissa Sawyer is a partner in the Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity groups at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in New York City. Melissa’s practice has focused on a variety of corporate governance, M&A and private equity matters in the United States and abroad. Among other things, Melissa is experienced in takeover offense and defense, poison pills, public company mergers, auctions, stock and assets sales, joint ventures and representing wealthy individuals in transitioning family-owned businesses to new capital structures. Her experience spans multiple industries, including insurance, financial services, consumer goods and manufacturing and healthcare and life sciences. Melissa is also a Hiring Partner and an Associate Development Partner at Sullivan & Cromwell.

Melissa has been featured in The New York Times’ “The Facebook of Wall Street’s Future” as one of roughly 100 people 40 years old or younger who make up the “next generation of dealmakers” and in New York Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star” for Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate Governance and Compliance, and Business/Corporate. Melissa has published numerous articles, including the “Speed Reading” articles, a series of practitioner-focused M&A articles published by Lexis-Nexis.

Melissa received a B.A. in Political Science and Economics from Washington & Lee University in 1997 and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2000.
