Lecturer in Law
Matt Gewolb is Director of Government Programs and Lecturer-in-Law at Columbia Law School, where he co-teaches the Externship on the Federal Government in Washington, D.C. and directs Social Justice Initiatives programming relating to public service. Prior to joining Columbia, Matt served as Legislative Counsel at the New York City Council under Speaker Christine C. Quinn. He was previously Chief of Staff to Georgia Senate Minority Leader Robert Brown and Director of the Georgia Senate Democratic Caucus. He also served as a Fellow with the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions and was Executive Director of Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington, an environmental advocacy group. Matt has served as a staffer and consultant for many political candidates seeking state and federal office and is active in New York politics. Matt graduated with a B.S. in Policy Analysis and Management from Cornell University and received his J.D. from Emory Law School, where he received several awards for public service. He is a vice-chair of the National Association for Law Placement’s Public Service Section and leads the section’s work group on diversity in public service employment.
