Maria E. Navarro

Lecturer in Law

Maria E. Navarro is a Supervising Attorney in the Immigration Law Unit at The Legal Aid Society.  She assists the Attorney-in-Charge of the Unit with supervising attorneys and paralegals in the legal work of the Unit, including individual case representation, affirmative litigation and policy advocacy. Maria also co-teaches an Immigrant Defense Externship at Columbia Law School. 

A graduate of Fordham University and New York University School of Law, Maria has been with The Legal Aid Society for over twelve years.  She has spent the majority of that time with the Immigration Law Unit representing low-income immigrants in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court, the Board of Immigration Appeals, the federal district courts and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. 

Maria also provides advice to immigrants seeking to make various application before the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service, including citizenship, family based petitions and various applications.  She has also conducted various trainings for immigration advocates and criminal defense attorneys.  Maria is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and is also a Board Member of the Northern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights.
