Sandra Jefferson Grannum, New York State Attorney General's Office Chief of Legal Recruitment, will discuss current opportunities within her agency. We will also cover the Externship on Advancing Social and Environmental Justice in the New York Attorney General's Office, offered each fall. Students who have worked in the AG's office will be on hand to answer your questions, as will Dorothea Caldwell-Brown, Assistant Attorney General in the Attorney General's Health Care Bureau.
Sandra Grannum, Chief of the Legal Recruitment Bureau of the Office of the New York State Attorney General, serves as the Office's hiring manager and runs the prestigious Summer Law Internship Program. She previously served as the AG's Deputy Bureau Chief and Acting Chief of the Health Care Bureau. Her career has included numerous judicial clerkships and additional positions within the public and private sectors. They include the following positions: senior law clerk for the retired Honorable George Bundy Smith, Associate Judge, New York State Court of Appeals; law clerk for Judge Smith on the Appellate Division, First Dept.; court attorney for the Appellate Term, First Dept.; law clerk for Judge Gladys Kessler, District of Columbia Superior Court; Assistant Corporation Counsel in NYC and Washington, D.C.; litigation associate at Stroock & Stroock & Lavan; and Vice President of Corporate Legal Affairs at Avanti Corporate Health Systems.
Dorothea Caldwell-Brown is currently an Assistant Attorney General in the Health Care Bureau of the Office of the State Attorney General. Prior to attending Columbia Law School, Caldwell-Brown was a nurse practitioner and a community health nurse and obtained a Masters degree in Public Health from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. Following law school, Caldwell-Brown clerked for the Honorable Ronald L. Ellis in the Southern District of New York and worked as a corporate attorney, specializing in health law. As an Assistant Attorney General, Caldwell-Brown has gained knowledge and expertise in state and federal health, insurance, consumer frauds and civil rights laws. Caldwell-Brown has investigated and settled cases involving improper denials of medical care and unfair settlement of claims by health plans and improper business practices by jail health and other health-related entities.
