As part of the Lawyering for Change in a Changing World series, we will host Karl Racine, currently the first elected Attorney General for the District of Columbia. Prior to being elected to that position, he served as DC's Public Defender. Before that, he was the first African-American managing partner of a top-100 US law firm, Venable LLP.
Karl will lead a discussion on the vision and goals that animate his work, his strategies for pursuing that vision, and the role of race and identity in shaping his approach to pursuing change. The conversation will be facilitated by Richard Gray, the Deputy Executive Director of Community Organizing and Engagement and School Change at NYU’s Metro Center.
Lawyering for Change is a monthly series aimed at providing an opportunity for faculty, students, staff, and alumni to interact informally with each other, framed by brief remarks about an issue or topic relating to the general theme.
Non-pizza lunch will be served.
