Joel Villaseca LL.M. '99 is the Principal Legal Officer (General Law) at the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. Join him for a discussion on his work which involves a wide range of complex or novel legal questions in international commercial, administrative, and private and public international law. He will also speak about his career path, tips on getting hired at a UN agency, and expectations of an entry-level attorney.

Joel started his legal career as a corporate transactional attorney with SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan in Manila and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in New York. He then transitioned into the public sector in 2007, first joining UNRWA before moving to The Global Fund in Geneva, the Office of the President of the Philippines and then UNDP in New York. Joel received his JD from Ateneo de Manila University, an LLM from Columbia Law School where he was a Stone Scholar, and an MPA from the Kennedy School at Harvard University, where he was also a Mason Fellow.

Pizza will be served, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. If you have further dietary restrictions, email Tareian King at least 2 business days prior to the event and we will do our best to accommodate them. Hosted by Social Justice Initiatives and the Human Rights Institute.
