The course is intended to provide in a realistic setting the structure, operation, strategies and issues involving the large law firm in 2011 (i.e., a law firm with more than 400 lawyers). The specific subjects covered will include governance, ownership, law firm economics, compensation (partner and associate), marketing and business development, entrepreneurial activities, including ancillary businesses, contingent fee agreements, lawyers serving on Corporate Boards, lawyers investing in client businesses, culture, conflicts, strategy and issues of particular interest to associates (e.g., training, mentoring, partnership criteria, etc.).
NOTE - This course does not satisfy the Professional Responsibility requirement for students in the Juris Doctor program.
This is a seven-week, one credit seminar, meeting for 2 hours each week. The first class is scheduled for September 9 and the seminar ends on October 28 - no class on October 7.
