The seminar introduces recent scholarly literature on the relationship between American legal institutions and ideology, and the politics of racial subordination. Class discussion will focus on works by Regina Austin, Derrick Bell, John Calmore, Anthony Cook, Kimberle Crenshaw, Peggy Davis, Richard Delgado, Neil Gotanda, D. Marvin Jones, Charles Lawrence, Mari Matsuda, Gary Peller, Gayatri Spivak, Kendall Thomas, Gerald Torres, Cornel West, Patricia Williams, and others.
